This is an hourly position listed at $47.66 per hour.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Performs and directs crew in the safe completion of construction, maintenance, and service work on the Cooperative’ electric distribution system.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

A. Reports to: Vice President of Operations and Operations Manager
B. Directs: Crew Members

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Actively teach and demonstrate relevant skills in accordance with work procedures.
Use personal observation and conversation with other experienced/knowledgeable lineman to monitor apprentice progress.
Instructs on what is to be done, the reason for doing the work in a specific manner and doing the work safely and efficiently.
Acts as a role model, demonstrating correct work procedures and best practices at all times.
Leads by example.
Evaluates crew members job performance
Assigns meaningful and challenging work to apprentices to gain experience and achieve competency in critical work areas that is appropriate for the level of training needed for current steps.
Required to document training and sign off on training curricula after concurrence with Journeyman Lineman.
Coaching, mentoring to support learning and supporting subordinates in learning, practicing and mastering skills while in the job situation.
Provide coaching to help overcome difficulties in applying newly acquired knowledge and skills.
Must be able to assess deficiencies in subordinates’ skills and knowledge.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures a safe work environment for subordinates and insist that all safety practices and procedures are followed.
Ensures that apprentices are always supervised by a qualified worker when apprentice are performing tasks.
Supervises all work done by crew to ensure safety rules and construction specifications applied.
Coordinates training with workload to identify work opportunities that are needed in each step suitable for apprentice training.
Inspects for proper maintenance of personal tools and safety equipment.
Prepares daily time sheets.
Organizes daily work orders by turning in and drawing materials and completing paperwork.
Ensures all equipment maintenance schedules are followed and all repairs are done when needed.
Serves on rotation for after hour’s calls.
Maintains daily truck inspections.
Ability to perform rescue procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Requires successful completion of the Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation Lineman Training Program.
Must be competent in substation operation, switching, conversion work and troubleshooting.
Proven progressive on-the-job work as a Journeyman Lineman or Lead Journeyman Lineman.
Demonstrated ability to train, lead and motivate subordinates.
Maintains Commercial Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Understands Cooperative maps, Safety Manual, work orders, construction drawings, staking sheets and any type of Cooperative forms related to work being performed
Ability to communicate effectively with Cooperative members and employees and promotes continuous good member and public relations.
Knowledge of Cooperative, state and other regulatory rules and procedures.
Skilled in problem solving and troubleshooting outages and other problem areas.
Knowledgeable of Cooperative’s service area and distribution system.
Ability to perform outdoors, in adverse weather conditions for extended period of time.
Ability to think clearly and must possess sound judgment abilities.
Ability to use tools in rough terrain.
Ability to write in a clear legible manner.
Ability to lift objects of various sizes and shapes weighing in excess of 25 lbs.
Ability to climb structures and equipment in excess of 10 feet in height for the purpose of inspection, repair and evaluation.
Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain.
Ability to successfully complete conversion jobs.
